Is there anyone who doesn’t appreciate a good bakery? Visually, “scentually”, and gastronomically enticing, they evoke images of classic bakery restaurants, market stalls, and street carts found all over Europe. If you’re in Northern California you’re in luck, because Tantardini’s European Bakery-Deli is a road trip-worthy restaurant serving up some of the most amazing croissants – and more!

The enterprise is named after the Tantardini family who immigrated to Redding from Milan, Italy in 2012. The patriarch of the family, Diego, started baking as a young man and his passion for creating beautiful, delectable, wholesome pastries using only the purest ingredients continued to grow.

Folks come to Tantardini’s European Bakery-Deli from all over Redding, the surrounding areas, and across Northern California for one of their most popular items, the croissants. Crisp and golden brown on the outside, soft on the inside, and oh-so-delicious, the croissants are the perfect morning meal, accompaniment to a hot cup of coffee or tea, or as the base for a sandwich.

Among the croissant options here are the chocolate ganache and chocolate with hazelnuts. Licking your fingers (or the sides of your face) to sop up all of that delicate powdered sugar is totally acceptable (and probably a compliment to the baker too!).

In every bite you can taste the tradition, effort, and love put into every croissant they bake and sell here.

On Friday’s, crowds also flock in for their cannolis – delicate, fried, tube-shaped shells, filled with a sweet, creamy filling like the kind you’ll find on most traditional Italian restaurant menus.

Try the Crostata—a scrumptious Italian fruit tart topped with jam—the cranberry and orange, maple, or almond scones, or the tiramisu. The latter are out of this world lady fingers soaked in espresso coffee, covered with whipped cream and mascarpone, then topped with fine chocolate. OMG!
Tantardini’s menu goes beyond baked goods too. Choose from delicious paninis served on homemade bread, cold pasta and green salads, traditional pasta dishes with pesto, alfredo, and ragu sauces, lasagna, and the Polpette della nonna meatballs – Grandma’s special recipe, of course!
